From labor to national leader: Lee Jae-myung, South Korea's new president

After former President Yoon Suk-yeol was impeached in December 2024 following the declaration of martial law nationwide, South Korea held a snap presidential election on June 3, 2025. The election result was as expected, with Lee Jae-myung, the candidate of the liberal Democratic Party (DP), winning a landslide victory with 49.3 percent of the vote, beating Kim Moon-soo, the candidate of the People Power Party, who received 41.3 percent.
